Introducing Mr. Baker...
Darrick “Mr. Baker” Harris is a self-taught baker and entrepreneur whose journey into baking began at just ten years old while watching his aunt prepare desserts for a local church function. What started as curiosity quickly grew into passion. By the time he reached high school, Harris had already turned his love for baking into a small business, selling cookies and sweet treats to classmates and teachers, earning the nickname “The Cookie Man.”
Over the years, Harris dedicated himself to mastering the art of baking, teaching himself how to create everything from cheesecakes and pies to beautifully decorated wedding cakes. His creativity and determination helped him build a reputation across Richmond for high-quality desserts and artistic cake design. As food trends evolved and the demand for inclusive desserts grew, Harris expanded his offerings to include vegan and gluten-free options, ensuring more people could enjoy his creations.




His work has gained widespread recognition and has been featured in major publications including The Washington Post, Richmond Times-Dispatch, and Richmond Free Press, where he was highlighted as Personality of the Week. In 2021, during a visit to support Black-owned businesses in Richmond, Jill Biden, First Lady of the United States, tasted Harris’ signature Blueberry Lemon Pound Cake, a moment that was featured in The Washington Post. His desserts were also recognized by Spoon University as part of the list of “15 Best Desserts in Richmond to Eat Before You Die.”
